Scanpan Alternatives (2026): 6 Pans Without PTFE, Compared
Scanpan's main nonstick lines (Classic, Professional, CTX, CS+, HaptIQ and others) use Stratanium coatings, which Scanpan says "contain some PTFE." If you want nonstick made without PTFE, the best Scanpan alternatives are Alva's 5-Ply Ceramic Nonstick Frying Pan (5-ply stainless body, 10-year warranty), Scanpan's own ceramic Qraft line, GreenPan and Caraway. If you'd rather drop coatings altogether, choose uncoated 5-ply stainless or carbon steel.
Scanpan makes well-built nonstick in Denmark, and nothing here suggests it's unsafe to cook on. Scanpan cites US and European regulators who consider PTFE inert. People look for an alternative for a narrower reason: they want a pan made without PTFE, a fluoropolymer that sits inside broad PFAS definitions such as the OECD's. This guide covers who makes that pan and what you give up for it. We make three of the alternatives (Alva), and we'll say plainly where Scanpan still wins.

How to read it: the "Coating" column is the reason this page exists. Everything below the two Scanpan baseline rows is made without PTFE. The trade-offs show up in the columns to the right. Ceramic coatings generally have lower oven limits than Scanpan's 500°F, most want hand washing, and their coating warranties are shorter than Scanpan's lifetime cover, with Alva's 10 years the longest among them. Price tiers are for a 10–11" pan: Budget is under $75, Mid-range $75–149, Premium $150–249, Luxury $250+.

Why people look for a Scanpan alternative
- Stratanium contains PTFE. Scanpan's FAQ says it plainly: "While our pans are made without PFOA and PFOS, SCANPAN Stratanium and Stratanium+ contain some PTFE." Stratanium is used on Classic, Classic Induction, Professional, Pro IQ and CTX, and Stratanium+ on HaptIQ, CS+ and TechnIQ.
- "PFOA-free" isn't the same as PTFE-free. Scanpan's marketing leads with PFOA- and PFOS-free. Both claims are true, but neither tells you whether the coating itself contains a fluoropolymer. If your goal is a cooking surface with no fluoropolymer at all, you need a ceramic or uncoated pan.
- Scanpan's ceramic option is narrower. Scanpan does make a ceramic line, Qraft, using its Stratanium LEAP coating "made without PFAS." It carries a 2-year warranty, isn't dishwasher recommended, and wasn't listed among Scanpan's induction-compatible lines when we checked.

Our pick
5-Ply Ceramic Nonstick Frying Pan
A fully clad 5-ply stainless body, like Scanpan's CS+ and HaptIQ, with a ceramic surface made without PFAS, PTFE or PFOA, independently tested with the reports published. Induction-ready, oven-safe to 400°F, 10-year limited warranty. The honest trade-off: ceramic needs gentler care than Scanpan's coating, meaning low-to-medium heat, no metal tools and hand washing.

1. Alva 5-Ply Ceramic Nonstick: the closest swap for Scanpan CS+ and HaptIQ
10-year warranty · 400°F · induction
Scanpan's clad lines pair a 5-ply stainless body with PTFE nonstick. The 5-Ply Ceramic Nonstick Frying Pan keeps the fully clad 5-ply stainless body and swaps the coating for ceramic made without PFAS, PTFE or PFOA. The coating is independently tested by TÜV Rheinland, with the reports published on our Testing & Materials page. It comes in 8", 9.5" and 11", with two- and three-pan sets.
The honest trade-off: ceramic is a gentler surface than Scanpan's. Keep it to low and medium heat, use silicone, nylon or wooden tools, and hand wash it. The oven limit is 400°F against Scanpan's 500°F, and the warranty is 10 years against Scanpan's lifetime.
2. Alva Maestro Ceramic: the lighter, lower-cost swap for Scanpan Classic
10-year warranty · 400°F · induction
Scanpan Classic is squeeze-cast aluminum. The Maestro Ceramic Nonstick Frying Pan is the like-for-like: a 4.5mm forged aluminum body, ceramic made without PFAS, PTFE or PFOA, and a stainless induction plate, so it works on induction where Classic does not. It comes in 8", 9.5" and 11".
The honest trade-off: the same ceramic care rules apply: no metal utensils, hand wash, and a 400°F oven limit.
3. Scanpan Qraft: stay with Scanpan, drop the PTFE
2-year warranty · 480°F · made in Denmark
If you like Scanpan as a company, its Qraft line uses a sol-gel ceramic coating Scanpan describes as "made without PFAS," on a recycled aluminum body, made in Denmark.
The honest trade-off: the coating warranty drops from lifetime to two years, Scanpan recommends wooden tools and doesn't recommend the dishwasher, and Qraft wasn't on Scanpan's list of induction-compatible lines when we checked.
4. GreenPan GP5: best if you need the dishwasher or a hot oven
2-year coating warranty · 600°F · induction
GreenPan's GP5 is the most Scanpan-like ceramic on convenience. It's rated to 600°F, GreenPan says it's dishwasher safe (with hand washing recommended), and it's described as metal-utensil safe (with silicone recommended).
The honest trade-off: the "limited lifetime warranty" on GreenPan product pages covers the pan body. The warranty page limits the Thermolon coating to two years. See our GreenPan alternatives for the full picture.
5. Caraway: an unqualified PTFE-free claim
1-year warranty · 550°F · induction
Caraway states its fry pan is "crafted without PTFE, PFOA, and PFAS," with no qualifier, and it's rated to 550°F in the oven.
The honest trade-off: the warranty is one year, the pan must be hand washed, and Caraway's warranty excludes nonstick wear from high heat and coating damage from metal utensils.
6. Uncoated: 5-ply stainless or carbon steel
25-year limited warranty (stainless) or 25-year (carbon steel) · 500°F · induction
Scanpan's biggest practical advantages are a lifetime coating warranty, metal tools and the dishwasher. The only PTFE-free pans that match all three have no coating at all. Alva's 5-Ply Stainless Frying Pan is dishwasher-safe, oven-safe to 500°F and carries a 25-year limited warranty. For high-heat searing, the pre-seasoned Black Angus carbon steel pan is another uncoated route. Carbon steel is hand wash only.
The honest trade-off: neither is nonstick out of the box. Eggs on stainless take a little technique, and carbon steel's release builds up with seasoning over time.
Staying with PTFE? Know what you're comparing
If PTFE doesn't concern you, Scanpan is a strong choice, and the usual "alternatives" don't change the chemistry. Made In's California disclosure lists PTFE, FEP and PFA in its non stick line, and All-Clad states its HA1 nonstick "contains PTFE." Those are lateral moves on coating, not PTFE-free ones. If you're also considering hybrid pans, see our HexClad alternatives.
Where Scanpan still wins (because fair matters)
- The warranty covers the coating for life. Scanpan's limited lifetime warranty on Stratanium and Stratanium+ lists "peeling, pitting, and bubbling of the surface" as covered defects. No ceramic brand here matches that.
- Metal utensils and the dishwasher. Scanpan says Stratanium pans are safe for both. Ceramic coatings generally aren't.
- 500°F oven-safe, lids and handles included. That's higher than Alva's ceramic at 400°F, though GreenPan and Caraway go higher still.
- Made in Denmark. Scanpan makes all its nonstick in Denmark. Its stainless and carbon steel lines are designed there and made in China. Alva is designed in Belgium and made in China.
- Release longevity. PTFE coatings generally keep their slickness longer than ceramic ones. If you cook eggs every day and want the slickest surface for the longest time, that's a real advantage.

Frequently asked questions
Does Scanpan contain PTFE?
Its main lines do. Scanpan's FAQ says its pans are made without PFOA and PFOS but that Stratanium and Stratanium+ "contain some PTFE." Stratanium is used on Classic, Classic Induction, Professional, Pro IQ and CTX, and Stratanium+ on HaptIQ, CS+ and TechnIQ. Scanpan's ceramic Qraft line uses Stratanium LEAP, which Scanpan describes as made without PFAS.
Is Scanpan PFAS-free?
Scanpan says PFOA, PFOS and "other PFAS of concern" aren't used in making its products, and its ceramic Qraft line is described as made without PFAS. Its Stratanium and Stratanium+ coatings contain PTFE, a fluoropolymer that falls within broad PFAS definitions such as the OECD's. Scanpan notes that regulators including the FDA consider PTFE inert. Whether that matters to you is a personal call, so it's worth knowing which line you're buying.
What is a good PTFE-free alternative to Scanpan?
For a 5-ply stainless body like Scanpan CS+ or HaptIQ, the Alva 5-Ply Ceramic Nonstick Frying Pan uses ceramic made without PFAS, PTFE or PFOA and carries a 10-year warranty. For an aluminum pan like Scanpan Classic, Alva Maestro Ceramic is the closer match. GreenPan and Caraway are other ceramic options, and Scanpan's own Qraft line is ceramic too.
Is there a PTFE-free pan that's dishwasher and metal-utensil safe?
Uncoated stainless steel is the only option that is reliably both. Alva's 5-ply stainless is dishwasher-safe and has no coating for metal tools to damage. GreenPan's GP5 ceramic says it's dishwasher safe and metal-utensil safe, but recommends hand washing and silicone tools to make the coating last.
Where is Scanpan made?
Scanpan says all its nonstick cookware is made in Denmark. Its stainless and carbon steel cookware is designed in Denmark and made to its specifications in China.
The bottom line
Scanpan makes durable, well-warrantied nonstick, and the case for an alternative comes down to one thing: whether you want a cooking surface made without PTFE. If you do, the closest swap for Scanpan's clad pans is the Alva 5-Ply Ceramic Nonstick Frying Pan. If you'd rather never think about coatings again, go 5-ply stainless. Free U.S. shipping over $99.
