What we test for

Three categories, tested by independent labs — not self-certified.

PFAS — 638-substance panel

The “forever chemicals” family, including PFOA, PFOS, PFHxA, PFHxS, and C9–C14 PFCAs. PTFE (Teflon) is a fluoropolymer within the PFAS family; our nonstick surfaces are ceramic, not PTFE.

Lead & cadmium

Published lead and cadmium results are below the applicable food-contact limits for the samples and components tested. Review each report for its test method and scope.

Food-contact suitability

Extractives and migration tests assess what transfers from a tested material under specified conditions, against the limits listed in each report.

Other lines

Our uncoated Maestro 5-Ply Stainless cookware — a separate line from the Maestro 5-Ply Nonstick Stainless shown above — has no nonstick coating at all, so there is no PFAS or PTFE present by design. Its California AB 1200 disclosure — the DTSC-listed elements inherent to 18/10 stainless steel — is published on our Chemical Disclosure (AB 1200) page. Reports for the remaining lines are published here as they are finalized.

Questions about our testing

Is Alva cookware PFAS-free?
Published TÜV Rheinland reports for tested ceramic coatings document a 638-substance PFAS panel, with results below the laboratory reporting limits. Each report identifies the samples and coatings tested.
Is Alva nonstick PTFE- or Teflon-free?
Yes. Our nonstick surfaces are ceramic, not PTFE (Teflon). PTFE is a fluoropolymer within the PFAS family covered by our 638-substance testing, which passed.
Does Alva cookware contain lead or cadmium?
Published reports show lead and cadmium results below the applicable food-contact limits for the samples tested. Test methods, components and limits vary by report. Review the report for your cookware for the exact scope; these results do not establish that a material contains absolutely no lead or cadmium.
What is the AB 1200 chemical disclosure?
California Assembly Bill 1200 requires cookware makers to disclose chemicals on California’s DTSC Candidate Chemical List that are intentionally added to a food-contact surface or handle. We commissioned independent Intertek formulation reviews for our lines and publish each one as a PDF above. A disclosure is transparency, not a warning — many everyday materials, including stainless steel and aluminium, contain listed elements. PFAS, PTFE, PFOA, PFOS and BPA are not intentionally added to any Alva cookware. Who tests Alva cookware?
Two independent third-party testing organizations. TÜV Rheinland carries out our PFAS and food-contact testing at its chemical laboratories in Ningbo (PFAS) and Shanghai (food-contact), and Intertek carried out the food-safety and performance testing for our Nori, Forest and Energy lines. Reports are commissioned by ALLINOX BV, Alva’s Belgium-based parent company.
