Caraway vs Our Place: Which Ceramic Cookware Should You Buy?

Caraway and Our Place are the two ceramic nonstick brands that took over kitchen shelves and Instagram at the same time. They are aimed at the same buyer — someone leaving conventional nonstick behind — but they solve the problem differently. One sells a colour-matched set with storage racks; the other sells one pan that claims to do ten jobs.

The short answer: Caraway if you want a full set that stores neatly and a higher oven ceiling. Our Place if you want to own fewer pans and like the multi-use format. But check the warranty column before you decide — it is the biggest gap between them, and neither leads the category.

The warranty gap is the real story

Ceramic nonstick coatings wear out. That is the defining fact of the category — unlike stainless or cast iron, a ceramic pan has a finite life, and the coating is what ends it. So the warranty on that coating is the single most useful number when comparing brands, and it is the number buyers most often skip.

Caraway ceramic cookware carries a one-year limited warranty. Their warranty page also excludes, in its own words, "non-stick deterioration, discoloration, warping, or metal separation due to high heat, prolonged heat exposure" — which describes the most common way a ceramic pan actually fails.

Our Place ceramic carries three years for anything bought on or after 1 May 2025, and one year before that. Their Essentials line is two years. Their exclusions similarly cover scratches and "normal wear and tear."

Every brand in this category excludes cosmetic wear, and that is reasonable. The question worth asking is how long the company is willing to stand behind the surface at all. One year, three years and ten years are meaningfully different answers.

Caraway: the set that stores itself

Caraway's real innovation was never the coating — it was the storage. Full sets ship with organizers: a lid holder and pan racks that turn a cabinet full of stacked pans into something orderly. If your cookware currently lives in a precarious pile, that is a genuine daily benefit and nobody else in the category matched it for years.

They also have the highest oven ceiling of the three at 550°F, and they publish third-party testing, which most of the category does not.

One thing to check before ordering: storage configuration is a selectable option on the product page, so confirm what your specific set includes at checkout rather than assuming the organizers are bundled.

Our Place: fewer pans, more jobs

The Always Pan is the product that made Our Place, and the pitch is honest: one pan that braises, sears, steams, strains, sautés and fries, sold with a steamer basket and spatula. If you cook in a small kitchen or genuinely only use one or two pans, buying one good multi-tasker instead of a ten-piece set is sensible.

The trade-off is the 450°F oven ceiling and no storage system on the flagship ceramic sets, only on the separate Essentials line — which also carries a shorter two-year warranty than the three years on the main ceramic range. We could not find a country of manufacture on Our Place's product, warranty, AB 1200 or mission pages when we checked on 20 August 2026, which is worth knowing if provenance matters to you.

One caution when researching: Our Place's titanium line behaves completely differently from its ceramic line. The titanium pans are dishwasher safe and rated to 1000°F; the ceramic ones are hand wash only at 450°F. A lot of reviews blur the two.

Alva Maestro ceramic nonstick nine-piece cookware set

The third option

Alva Maestro Ceramic, 9-Piece

A 10-year warranty on the coating — against one year and three. Made without PFAS, PTFE or PFOA, verified by TÜV Rheinland across a 638-substance panel, with the reports published in full.

$499 · 7-piece $445 · 12-piece $599

Who should buy which

  • You want a full set that stores neatly. Caraway. The organizers are the reason to buy it.
  • You want the highest oven temperature. Caraway at 550°F.
  • You want to own as few pans as possible. Our Place. The Always Pan format genuinely reduces the pile.
  • You want nesting storage and ceramic. Our Place Essentials, or Alva's Neat stackable set at $229.
  • You want the longest coating warranty. Alva, at 10 years on Maestro. The honest trade-off: 400°F is the lowest oven ceiling of the three.
  • You want published lab reports with report numbers. Alva or Caraway — though check Caraway's stated testing scope, which appears as both "over 200 types of PFAS" and "over 600 types of forever chemicals" on different pages of their own site.
  • You sear steak at high heat regularly. None of these. Ceramic is the wrong surface — use carbon steel or cast iron.

Frequently asked questions

Is Caraway or Our Place better?

They optimise for different things. Caraway gives you a full colour-matched set with storage organizers and a 550°F oven rating. Our Place gives you a multi-use pan that replaces several, with a 450°F ceiling. Our Place carries the longer warranty of the two — three years against Caraway's one. If storage is your problem, Caraway; if pan count is your problem, Our Place.

Is Caraway cookware PFAS-free?

Caraway states its cookware is "made without PTFE, PFOA, and PFAS, lead, and cadmium," and publishes independent third-party lab testing to support it. Note that their site describes the testing scope two different ways — "over 200 types of PFAS" in one place and "over 600 types of forever chemicals" in another — so check which figure applies to the product you are buying.

Can Caraway or Our Place go in the dishwasher?

Neither. Caraway states its products should "never be put in your dishwasher," because it reduces the life of the nonstick surface. Our Place labels its ceramic cookware "Hand wash only, not dishwasher safe." This is normal for ceramic nonstick — dishwasher detergent is abrasive and shortens coating life. Our Place's titanium line is the exception and is dishwasher safe.

How long does ceramic nonstick actually last?

Ceramic coatings are consumable — with everyday use most last one to three years before release noticeably declines, and high heat, metal utensils and dishwashers all shorten that. The warranty tells you what the brand expects: Caraway covers one year, Our Place three, Alva ten. Hand washing, medium heat and soft utensils extend any of them considerably.

Do they work on induction?

Yes, both. Caraway's aluminum body carries a stainless base plate that makes it induction compatible, though they note not every induction cooktop pairs with every pan and suggest checking with your cooktop manufacturer. Our Place states on its ceramic set pages that they are induction compatible. Alva's ceramic range is induction-ready across the line.

Where is each brand made?

Caraway states its products are made in factories in China that meet BSCI or SMETA standards. We could not find a country of manufacture on Our Place's product, warranty, AB 1200 or mission pages when we checked on 20 August 2026. Alva cookware is Belgian-engineered. If provenance matters to your decision, it is worth noting which brands disclose it and which do not.

Will ceramic cookware last 10 years?

The pan body will; the coating is the limiting factor. No ceramic nonstick surface is permanent, which is why warranty length is the most honest signal of expected life. Alva backs its Maestro ceramic for 10 years, the longest in this comparison. To get anywhere near that from any brand: medium heat only, no dishwasher, no metal utensils, and never heat an empty pan.
