Chemical Disclosure (California AB 1200)
California AB 1200 Chemical Disclosure for Alva Cookware
At Alva, we are committed to safe, durable, and responsibly manufactured cookware. In accordance with California Assembly Bill 1200 (AB 1200), this page discloses the chemicals on California's Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) Candidate Chemical List that are intentionally added to the food-contact surfaces and handles of Alva cookware, by collection — together with each collection's materials and maximum oven temperature. Independent third-party reviews by Intertek are linked below as downloadable PDFs.
About California Assembly Bill No. 1200 (AB 1200)
California AB 1200 (Health & Safety Code, commencing with Section 109010) requires cookware manufacturers to disclose chemicals that appear on the California DTSC Candidate Chemical List when those chemicals are intentionally added to a food-contact surface or handle. Website disclosure has been required since January 1, 2023 (Section 109012) and label disclosure since January 1, 2024 (Section 109011). “Intentionally added” means the chemical serves a functional or technical purpose in the product. A disclosure under AB 1200 is not a warning: many everyday materials — including stainless steel and aluminum — contain listed elements. All Alva cookware complies with applicable U.S. FDA requirements for direct food contact.
Substances Alva never intentionally adds
The following substances are not intentionally added to any Alva cookware, in any collection: PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, including PTFE, PFOA and PFOS) and BPA (bisphenol A). Our coated collections are additionally screened by TÜV Rheinland against a 638-substance panel, and those laboratory reports are published on our Testing & Materials Transparency page.

18/10 (304-family) stainless steel is an alloy that by composition contains DTSC-listed elements: chromium, nickel, manganese and phosphorus; the bonded core contains aluminum (not a food-contact surface). These elements are what make stainless steel stainless — they are standard to all 18/10 cookware.
Maestro — Ceramic Nonstick (aluminum body) and 5-Ply Nonstick Stainless
Cooking surface: sol-gel ceramic nonstick (made without PFAS, PTFE, PFOA, PFOS) · Body: aluminum (ceramic line) or 5-ply stainless with aluminum core (nonstick stainless pans) · Handles: stainless steel · Max oven temperature: 400°F.
PFAS / PTFE / PFOA / PFOS / BPA: not intentionally added — verified in the published TÜV Rheinland screening reports.
By material composition these products contain DTSC-listed elements: aluminum (body) and, in stainless components, chromium, nickel and manganese.
Energy & Neat — Ceramic Nonstick (recycled aluminum body)
Cooking surface: sol-gel ceramic nonstick (made without PFAS, PTFE, PFOA, PFOS) · Body: recycled aluminum · Max oven temperature: Energy — stovetop use only (not oven-safe); Neat — 400°F.
PFAS / PTFE / PFOA / PFOS / BPA: not intentionally added — verified in the published TÜV Rheinland screening reports.
By material composition these products contain aluminum (body; beneath the ceramic cooking surface).
Forest — Carbon Steel
Cooking surface: pre-seasoned carbon steel (uncoated iron–carbon alloy, seasoned with vegetable oil) · Max oven temperature: stovetop use only (not oven-safe).
PFAS / PTFE / PFOA / PFOS / BPA: not intentionally added. Iron is not a DTSC-designated chemical; an Intertek AB 1200 formulation review for this line is in progress and this page will be updated when it is published.

Frequently asked questions
Does Alva cookware contain PFAS, PTFE, PFOA or PFOS?
No. PFAS — including PTFE, PFOA and PFOS — are not intentionally added to any Alva cookware, and our coated collections are independently screened by TÜV Rheinland against a 638-substance panel that includes them. The reports are published on our Testing & Materials page.
Does Alva cookware contain BPA?
No. BPA is not intentionally added to any Alva cookware.
Why does this page disclose chemicals like chromium, nickel or titanium dioxide?
California AB 1200 requires disclosure of any DTSC-listed chemical that is intentionally added to a food-contact surface or handle — including the elements that make up everyday materials. Chromium and nickel are what make 18/10 stainless steel corrosion-resistant; titanium dioxide is a standard whitening mineral in vitreous enamel. A disclosure is transparency, not a warning, and all Alva cookware complies with FDA requirements for food contact.
Where can I read the underlying lab documents?
The Intertek AB 1200 reviews for Artist and Nori are downloadable above, and the TÜV Rheinland screening reports for our coated collections are published in full on the Testing & Materials Transparency page.
What is the maximum oven temperature for my pan?
It depends on the collection: 500°F for Nori enameled cast iron, Artist and Black Angus carbon steel, and Maestro 5-ply stainless; 400°F for Maestro ceramic nonstick, Neat and the discontinued Mobi set; Energy and Forest are designed for stovetop use only. The table above lists every product, and each product page confirms its own limit.
